Apple Computer Inc has signed the Silo Inc consumer electronics chain and Office Depot Inc and OfficeMax office equipment chains to participate in a retail promotion of Macintosh computers starting this month: the pilot programme, which runs through the summer, is designed to help pave the way for sale of new Apple computers through expanded consumer channels in the autumn and Apple says it expects to be in about 1,800 retail locations when it introduces a line of new consumer-oriented computers this year; some models will be bundled with applications and one year’s on-site service and one toll-free support; machines in the trial will include the LCII with 4Mb, 80Mb disk and 12 colour monitor, and Classic II with 4Mb and an 80Mb disk drive.
