Silicon Graphics Ltd in the UK says it has won over UKP1m of orders for its Personal Iris workstation launched back in October last year: over 50 machines have been sold in the UK into application areas including animation, architecture, scientific analysis and industrial design, and although UKP15,000 is the entry price for the 4D/20 machine, the company says the average price of configurations ordered so far has been rather higher at UKP23,000. Gensym Corp, Cambridge, Massachusetts developer of the G2 real time expert system for industrial applications, has won seven international marketing and agreements for the product across Europe: in the UK, Sira Ltd, a pioneer of the application of expert systems in instrumentation, measurement and control, and will offer European training in the building of real-time systems using G2 via an on-line pilot process; in France, Cognitech SA will distribute and EISA will add value to G2 systems in the fields of nuclear plant control, building security and industrial manufacturing; in West Germany, the Interatom GmbH subsidiary of Siemens AG, will offer installation and consulting support for G2 installations, and the Insiders consultancy will offer consulting and application support for customers with G2; in Belgium, the AI Systems SA subsidiary of Societe Generale de Belgique SA will offer consulting and application engineering for installations of G2; and in Norway, the Computas Expert Systems AS subsidiary of the big shipping software and services firm will support G2 installations.
