Silicon Image, a provider of semiconductor and intellectual property products for the secure distribution, presentation and storage of high-definition content, has released a new IP core based on its SteelVine Series 3 Core technology for SATA storage processors.
The company said that the SteelVine technology is designed for enhanced performance and system-level cost reduction, and supports RAID0, RAID1 and JBOD for consumer electronics (CE) storage applications.
The applications for the RAID IP core include external storage enclosures; system boards; backup storage; PC motherboards; flash storage; surveillance DVR; media services and high-end set-top-boxes (STBs).
Ron Richter, director for worldwide IP core licensing at Silicon Image, said: "Sophisticated RAID capabilities are now migrating to consumer applications, however, complex software is inhibiting wide spread use.
"SteelVine technology IP cores provide RAID0 and RAID1 functionality significantly reducing CPU processing while delivering 2X storage performance or automatic back up without requiring any software installation or support."
