Signal Technology Inc, Santa Barbara, California, has launched an object-oriented application environment for signal processing, data analysis and presentation. Called nthPOWER, the software is targeted at companies developing digital products such as compact disks, on-board signal processing chips, speech recognition devices and digital telephones. The software runs on X Window-based workstations and client server networks. Signal, which produced the ILS Interactive Laboratory System signal processing software, has included ILS functionality within nthPOWER, which it claims provides the means for fast prototyping and higher productivity through use of a high-level symbolic application language. A high level language interface provides access to current software modules, and over 200 core mathamatical, analysis and control functions are available to users. Application areas include consumer electronics, acoustics, biomedical, radar, sonar, speech and voice processing, seismic activity and vibration. Prices range from $6,000 to $24,000 for DEC VAX/VMS or Ultrix and Sun Microsystems workstations. Signal also launched the latest version of its ILS software for DEC’s Ultrix-based DECstations, priced at $15,600.
