Sigma Designs of Fremont, California has selected Milpitas, California-based C-Cube Microsystems Inc’s CLM4100 Multimedia Accelerator as the core technology for the company’s RealMagic Producer MPEG video authoring system. The new system has Microsoft AVI Editable MPEG to enable the editing of MPEG files. The CLM4100 combines C-Cube’s VideoRISC Processor with 30 frames per second real-time I frame capture function, non-real time IBP recode function, 24-frame IBP real-time encoder function and I frame decoder function. The CLM4100 also includes an H.261 video encoder for standards-based video conferencing. The VideoRISC Processor is specially designed for processing digital video. The VideoRISC Processor contains high-performance on-chip co-processors including a motion estimator, a variable length encoder-decoder, a Direct Memory Addressing controller, a DRAM controller and two intelligent video interfaces. C-Cube’s Multimedia Accelerator enables RealMagic Producer to capture, compress and store video in MPEG 1 I frame syntax at 30 frames per second. The recode capability enables the edited MPEG video to be further compressed into full MPEG IBP syntax.
