Apart from its OEM deal with ICL, Siemens AG sells its top-end laser printers almost exclusively into the IBM market, but the company is now planning to branch out in a big way, both in the OEM and end-user markets. Siemens is developing protocol and interface conversions for direct and remote host attachments as well as connection to networks for the Unisys, DEC, NCR, and IBM AS/400 and System 38 markets. The family currently consists of the 206 page-per-minute 2300 Laser Printing System, the 2200 Lasers that run at 103ppm and feature a unique cold-fusion process for use with coated stock, labels and other special papers; and the 2050 LD Printing System 50ppm cut-sheet light-emitting diode model. Both the 2300 and 2200 laser printers are available with IBM’s Advanced Function Printing, and Siemens will offer it for the 2050 next summer.
