The overland trail to Bombay in search of skilled software development engineers is becoming increasingly well travelled in the wake of India’s belated but highly successful market and trade liberalisation reforms and the latest to follow the spice routes is Siemens AG, which has set up a new subsidiary in India to develop software for its global telephone exchange switching systems. The new company, Siemens Communication Software Ltd, will be 70% owned by Siemens AG and 30% by its Indian unit, Siemens Ltd, which is 51% owned by the Mnchener.Siemens Ltd reports major orders from Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG for software development in several areas, and its Nashik factory in western India has been chosen to be the global manufacturing base for some types of digital controllers.
