The launch is a response to seeing its market share decline, due to its failure to produce compelling camera phone models for the mid-range market.

Its first camera phone, the Symbian Series 60-based SX1, was announced in February 2003 but is still not available commercially.

Both the new models feature colour screens, but only the C62 supports MMS, and an optional digital camera attachment.

The A60 has a 4096-colour screen, support for EMS, a WAP 1.2.1 browser and tri-band GSM. It also offers polyphonic ring tones and can be personalised with Siemens face covers.

The C62 can be used in conjunction with the Siemens QuickPic camera, which has an integrated flash, to send MMS. It is tri-band and supports GPRS. Availability is scheduled for October 2003 in Europe and Asia.
