SIEMENS SAID TO TAKE STAKE IN GEC PLESSEY TELECOMMUNICATIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

Frying rather bigger fish, the Evening Standard was convinced enough that the Ministry of Defence had changed its mind about the desirability of the GEC Plc swallowing up Plessey Co Plc that it ran the story as its business lead in late editions yesterday: ramification this time around is that Siemens AG is said to be being brought in to take a stake in GEC Plessey Telecommunications, which does make some sense, since System X is not a viable long-term digital exchange, and Siemens needs more market share to ensure that its EWSD survives.
