SIEMENS PLESSEY SURPRISED AT TERMINATION OF UK DEFENSE DEAL

Siemens AG’s Siemens Plessey Systems Ltd expressed surprise at a decision of the UK Ministry of Defense to terminate its 50m pound contract for the Vixen system to collect and disseminate accurate signals intelligence from a high density, dynamic electronic environment, saying it had fully met the contract specifications on time. Defense Procurement Minister James Arbuthnot said on Monday the ministry would consider pursuing a claim for compensation from Siemens Plessey after tests carried out last year and in 1995 showed that the Vixen system had operational shortcomings.
