Siemens-Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG and the State of Saxony, Germany, have signed an agreement to install the first vector computer in the new Federal States: a Fujitsu Ltd VP200-EX machine, previously installed at Aachen Technical University, is to now be acquired by its partner, Dresden Technical University – Siemens-Nixdorf says it will be the most powerful computer for scientific and technical applications to be used in the former German Democratic Republic; the machine, which performs 857 MFLOPS, will be used in theoretical physics and chemistry projects, telecommunications and mechanical engineering; it will be available to other universities in Saxony and for simulation studies at the Rossendorf nuclear research centre.
