SIEMENS NIXDORF UPGRADES POLICE NATIONAL COMPUTER

By CBR Staff Writer

Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG has upgraded the UK Police National Computer – a 7.500 mainframe running BS2000 to a Model H120-R from a H120-P by adding a third processor: the UKP1.2m deal was awarded by the Home Office information technology division and Siemens Nixdorf said the system can process multiple transactions 30% faster than before: it now also has 256Mb of main memory; the increase in capacity was needed because peak daily transaction rates have risen from 125,00 in December 1991 to more than 155,000, while the number of terminals connected to the machine has grown to 5,500 from 3,820.
