Shortly after Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG announced the introduction and availability of its new Reliant RM1000 Parallel Server for open enterprise computing, heavyweights in the software industry threw their support behind Siemens Nixdorf’s lead. Informix Software Inc, Information Builders Inc, Oracle Corp, SAS Institute Inc and SAP AG call the Reliant, and the strategy it stands for, both evolutionary and revolutionary. The intent of these software houses is to make their products available on the Reliant. Informix, for example, expects the availability of its Dynamic Scalable Architecture on the Reliant to be ideal and deliver one of the most powerful and reliable decision support and data warehousing offerings available. Oracle, a development partner on the project, stressed Oracle is now the first parallel database available on the Reliant RM1000 server. Paul Wahl, SAP executive vice-president, said the integrated symmetric multiprocessing and massively parallel architectur e will allow for the improvement of performance and critical fault-tolerance features for high-end R/3 customers in future.
