For several years, IBM and Siemens AG had the super-high-speed non-impact printer market to themselves, and remain the leading players, but now Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems Ltd has moved to a new technology for the big machines, which are used for applications such as running off vast numbers of bank statements. The company is claiming the world’s first high quality light emitting diode printer to offer 100 page per minute performance. The models in question are the 2090 and 2140 printers, both available now, which sell for between UKP100,000 and UKP150,000. A two-up printing facility, standard in both machines, enables the simultaneous printing of two A4 sheets at a rate of 197 pages printed per minute by the 2140. The printers are compatible with Siemens 7500 and IBM 370 machines and can be run on-line or off-line.
