The Siemens HiPath Wireless OAP is designed for outdoor and industrial environments and supports wireless distribution service (WDS) technology, which enables the Outdoor Access Point (OAP) to operate without a wired Ethernet network connection. According to Siemens, its access point is resistant to both freshwater and saltwater, fog, humidity, dust and dirt and has a broad operating temperature range.

The new version of Wireless Convergence Software includes WDS and opportunistic key caching that allows access points to share authentication credentials to accelerate client roaming and prevent delays in voice calls. It also has 802.1x access point authentication, which provides secure wired network integration through access point authentication.

Prior to the launch of these products, Siemens deployed the HiPath Wireless platform at Dominican College, New York City, earlier this month. Through Siemens’ reseller and integration partner Mathe, Siemens offers mobile services and applications to students, faculty, staff and guests with a limited budget and with a small IT staff.
