SIEMENS JAPAN ANNOUNCES NEW 5.25″ WHINCHESTER, THE UNILIB 5000

By CBR Staff Writer

Siemens AG’s Japanese subsidiary has now announced the company’s new 5.25 Winchester that stores 777Mb and calls it the UniLib 5000: it claims that the drive has the highest capacity in the world, although the 765Mb Micropolis 1560/1580 drive appears to format down to a higher net capacity; the company also unveiled the TDC 3800 cartridge tape drive, which stores 320Mb and manufactured by Siemens’ Norwegian affiliate Tandberg Data; both hit the Japanese OEM market in October.
