Siemens Enterprise Communications has unveiled a new unified communications offering OpenScape Office MX, which it claims to include features designed to yield small and medium businesses (SMBs) greater employee productivity, improved customer collaboration and reduced communication costs.

The company claims that OpenScape Office MX is the successor to HiPath OpenOffice ME and delivers voice, UC and data network capabilities in an easy-to-install service application.

The company said that after consultation with channel partners and customers, more than 50 improvements have been made to the product. It is tailored specifically to the needs of businesses with up to 150 users.

According to Siemens, the new offering includes UC capabilities such as voice and conferencing services, presence, voicemail, messaging and mobility and provides access to a range of voice and UC features directly from an Outlook window. It also includes presence-enabled multi-channel contact centre capabilities that allow businesses to accelerate response time and improve first contact resolution.

Designed to work from within Microsoft Outlook, OpenScape Office MX enables users to access UC features such as drag and drop conferencing, call recording and click to call from within their Outlook window. Users can also now launch conference calls; check on the presence of their peers; control how, when, and by whom they can be contacted at any given time; and automatically update their voicemail based on their Outlook calendar.

Sam Wood, vice president sales, unified communications for Innovative Technology Group, a Siemens Enterprise Communications reseller partner, said: “OpenScape Office MX provides great value to our SMB customers because it offers the full benefits of an end-to-end UC solution while being affordable for a smaller business.

“We even deployed the solution across the family of Color Art Integrated Interiors, and found that it was easy to deploy and tailor for the many different needs of the company’s different subsidiaries, quickly delivering productivity benefits and cost savings.
