Legato Systems Inc has won a worldwide OEM agreement from Siemens AG, expanding the existing agreement between the two for the Networker storage management product. Siemens will include Legato’s SmartMedia product line under the new agreement, and has licensed the source code of the product for both Unix and Windows NT platforms. SmartMedia manages removable media distributed storage, acting as a gateway for device sharing and centralizing the management of distributed storage libraries. The two say the technology will be useful for those moving data backup and recovery functions off the local area network as part of efforts to install system area networks. รก
