NHS Kensington and Chelsea hopes to cut call costs and improve security and productivity with an integrated voice and data network from Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN) Group.
When complete, early next year, eight locations in the NHS Kensington and Chelsea primary care trust (PCT) will be linked together with fully scalable VoIP networks.
An integrated voice and data network will provide free calls across the LAN and integration with the main NHS N3 broadband infrastructure. Partners previously on high specification rental lines will now have reduced rental costs. But just as importantly, SEN’s OpenScape Voice platform and secure Enterasys Data LAN networking equipment will also provide a common data platform for sharing information.
“With the Unified Communications infrastructure it doesn’t matter when the individual is, they can still get common services,” said Kester Blaize, account manager at Siemens. “It allows people to communicate easily and freely across different boundaries and gives access to people and services regardless of where they are. It is also in a secure environment so people can work away from the Trust.”
The Trust will be able to offer these services to other organisations as part of a shared service arrangement.
