With IBM finally getting somewhere near up to speed in PABXs, and AT&T pulling out all the stops, the market is getting intensely competitive and companies have to upgrade with great frequency just to stay in the game. Siemens Information Systems in Boca Raton, Florida, has come out with new software for its Saturn digital voice and data switches that adds six more features. The package includes speed dial entry of account codes; early incoming call identification; individual call forwarding and hunt-group destinations; 512 message waiting indications for internal and external calls; and 512 phantom lines. The new software runs on all Saturns, with from 24 to as many as 800 lines. Speed dial entry of account codes permits single-line telephone, DYAD and JR-DYAD digital telephone users to speed dial, rather than manually dial, special account codes for call accounting purposes. Account codes can be programmed, stored and in many instances displayed both in individual and group speed calling lists, with corresponding telephone numbers. Early incoming call identification gives DYAD users receiving incoming calls on their prime lines with automatic display of the calling number, extension or trunk, even before the calls have been accepted so the user can get rid of people they don’t want to talk to without making contact. If our experience here at Apt is anything to go by, the only problem would be that there are certain callers likely to get sent round on an endless loop as people one after the other sent the calls on to someone else. The internal or external call forwarding enhancement allows call forwarding features to be programmed for forwarding of internal calls, external calls or both and applies to all call forwarding features, including forwarding to a public network. Internal or external hunt-group destinations can be programmed for each member of a terminal hunt group, pilot number hunt group or any terminal/pilot number hunt group so that internally originated calls branch out of the normal hunting sequence to an alternative destination. The alternative destination may either be a member of a circular hunt group or a single station that is not a member of a circular hunt group. The number of message waiting indications is now 512, up from 128, for DYAD and JR-DYAD models.
