Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices Inc reports that Siemens AG has advised it that it is considering selling the 8.221m shares of AMD common, about 9.9%, that it currently holds: the shares were bought in 1977 as part of a joint venture agreement that was terminated in 1979; Advanced Micro has pre-emption rights on the shares for 30 days and says it is considering making an offer to for all or part of the holding, and if it fails to do so, Siemens is free to sell the shares in the open market or even to a potentially hostile third party if it chooses.
