Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG has extended Siemens’ 7.500 mainframe family with 18 new models and brought out a new release of the BS2000 operating system. The new 7.500 machines have been introduced across the range, and include three new low-end C30s; two new C40s – which provide connection for up to 290 workstations; a two-processor H60 machine; eight new H90 models, and a new H120 console processor which can be installed at distances of up to 6,000 feet. Also new in the input-output communication domain is Block Multi-channel Type 2 which provides data transfer speeds of up to 4.5M-bytes per second. The new release of the BS2000 operating system has two new security features – Secos, which tightens up user rights to data; and Aseco which is based on a chip card with its own personal identification number and increases protection against illegal access. Siemens Nixdorf is also reported to have slashed the prices of some of its existing systems by up to 50%.
