The first phase of the implementation involves the extraction and transfer of all critical data currently stored in legacy systems across Siam Commercial Bank (SCB)’s business units. This data will be consolidated within the centralized Teradata enterprise data warehouse (EDW) platform, where it will present a single, holistic view of SCB’s entire business.

SCB previously deployed a data warehouse running primarily on its IBM mainframe computing environment along with several disparate data marts. This system served the bank’s various business units as a decentralized ‘hub-and-spoke’ architecture.

This architecture ultimately represented a higher total cost of maintenance and ownership, and resulted in certain performance and scalability limitations. Finally, because the data also varied among data marts across the bank, consistency problems were created for business users who were unable to get a single view of the business.

According to Jason Shipman, general manager of Teradata in Thailand, the Teradata EDW solution will support functions as diverse as personalized customer relationship management and marketing programs, credit risk management strategies and financial analysis and reporting, as well as improved operational efficiencies that will result in helping reduce operating costs.
