By CBR Staff Writer

Less than three months after it bought tape drive maker Kennedy Co from Allegheny International for $2.4m, Shugart Corp, Monrovia, Calfornia, has decided to keep only Kennedy’s half-inch reel to reel tape business and has sold the quarter inch cartridge tape side of the business on to Irwin Magnetics of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kennedy’s new 5.25 125Mb Model 6550, and its planned 150Mb version, extend Irwin’s product line upward.
