VideOcart Inc with its rather silly shopping trolleys with screens on them that tell you what’s on special this week as you trundle round the aisles is finding the going rather tough: the Chicago company says that it is withdrawing from 49 unprofitable stores among two chains, saving $500,000 annually; the 49 stores account for $1m or 29% of the company’s year-to-date revenues, and cover installations in Von’s of Los Angeles and Kroger Co stores in the Atlanta area; Von’s Co actually rather likes the things, and asked for a first right of refusal for VideOcart’s planned expansion with touchscreen technology in early 1995 for the Los Angeles area in return for a one-time payment of $125,000 to the company.
