Burlington, Massachusetts-based Shiva Corp has launched version 3.0 of the remote access server software for its LanRover servers, said to bring local network-to-local network routing for branch office applications, and the ability for personal computer, Macintosh and Unix users to dial into a single LanRover server; until now LanRover users have needed separate servers to support personal computer and Macintosh remote users. The company says that has incorporated single number support for IPX, IP, AppleTalk ARA 2.0, NetBEUI and LLC/802.2 protocols over dial-up lines, enabling access to NetWare, AppleShare, TCP/IP, Windows for Workgroups, LAN Manager Windows NT servers and IBM Corp hosts. The new local network-to-local network routing is said to support simultaneous dial-up routing of IPX, TCP/IP and AppleTalk protocols using the Point-to-Point transport. The enhanced servers are due to ship next month, with server prices ranging from $2,900 to $8,500.
