Bedford, Massachusetts-based Shiva Corp is now shipping Shiva Dial-out for Windows95, incorporating its Shiva Dial-out Networking technology, and is claiming to be the first remote access vendor to provide full 32-bit dial-out capabilities for Windows95 users. Supporting Windows95 Remote Access and Shiva’s Windows95 Security Pack, for the authentication of dial-in connections from local network-based users, Dial-out Networking is said to enable local network users into another Point-to-Point Protocol-based remote network, including another local network, a remote intranet, or the Internet, while remaining attached to the original local network. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the company’s LanRover, LanRover Access Switch, and NetModem/E product lines and will ship as standard with these from later this quarter. It can also be downloaded from the company’s Web site at https://www.Shiva.com. The company has also launched the Dial-in software development kit, which is designed to speed the process of developing remote access applications. The kit, which is based on the Microsoft-developed 32-bit Remote Access Services application programming interface, includes class libraries, Visual Basic Controls, Visual C++ classes, sample code, documentation, and technical support services. It is designed for the development of Windows 3.X, Windows for Workgroups, Windows95, and Windows NT-based applications. The kit is available from Shiva’s Web site for $1,000 per developer, with unlimited distribution rights for resulting applications.
