Shiva Corp has integrated the PowerBurst remote node acceleration technology, that it gained from its acquisition of AirSoft Inc last year (CI No 2,946), into its LanRover and LanRover Access Switch products. According to the company, PowerBurst’s data caching client/agent software delivers performance increases on most file-based applications, such as electronic mail, by up to 200%, without requiring any modifications to existing networks. PowerBurst will be bundled with version 4.5 of the ShivOS Shiva Operating System for LanRover and LanRover Access Switch product. The PowerBurst client technology is also pre-installed with the ShivaRemote client software for Windows 3.x. A stand-alone PowerBurst client is also available for Windows 95 users. PowerBurst is priced on a per-server basis and pricing for a two- four-port LanRover is $1,000; $2,000 for an eight-port LanRover; and $5,000 for a LanRover Access Switch. For existing Shiva customers who purchase PowerBurst in this first quarter, Shiva will upgrade LanRovers and LanRover Access Switches to version 4.5 of ShivOS at no charge. Any customers who purchase PowerBurst after this period will need to upgrade to ShivOS 4.5 at a cost of $250 when upgrading from version 4.0, or $500 when upgrading from any earlier versions.
