Bedford, Massachusetts-based Shiva Corp has announced the Shiva Universal AccessManager, claimed to be the first protocol-independent, authentication, authorization and accounting system for Windows NT and Windows95. Aimed at large enterprises and internet service providers, AccessManager supports the Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service, RADIUS, and Terminal Access Controller Access System+, TACACS+ protocols, and includes a database interface that enables accounting data to be stored on a variety of databases. AccessManager can act as a proxy client for multiple user list servers, including various Unix systems, Microsoft Corp Windows NT Domains, Novell Inc’s NetWare Bindery and Novell Network Directory Services. It also provides support for third-party security servers from Security Dynamics Technologies Inc, AssureNet Pathways Inc and others.

Validates information

Authentication and authorization features enable network managers to control network access at both the user and workgroup level. Upon receipt of an authentication request from a remote client AccessManager validates the information and issues either an Authentication Permit or an Authentication Reject. Shiva Universal AccessManager will be available in November. Pricing for the software starts at $4,000 for up to 500 users. The company has also announced Shiva Enterprise Manager Version 1.0, a network management application for the management of Shiva LanRover Access Switch servers within HP OpenView. The package enables network administrators to perform device configuration, monitor network status, gather statistics, and back up off-line. Features include multiple device configuration, device firmware management, and user list maintenance. Its graphical interface permits statistics gathering, display and graphing; an on-line help function in World Wide Web format can be accessed via the Enterprise Manager or through a Web browser. Enterprise Manager runs on Unix under HP Open-View Network Node Manager V3.31. It is accessed when a Shiva-supported device is selected from an HP Open-View map in order to perform management op erations. It also supports SunOS versions 4.13 and 4.14 which correspond to Solaris V1.0. Shiva Enterprise Manager is available next month for $4,000. And Shiva is now shipping its Shiva AccessPort ISDN client router a remote access device with Windows-based management and installation applications. It is designed to provide small office-home office users with secure ISDN-based remote access to both private and public networks and costs $1,000.
