Shell expects Astrata’s in-vehicle monitoring system (IVMS) to assist the company in improving standards of driving, reducing accidents, minimizing injuries, and monitoring driving habits in real-time.
The IVMS is expected to play a significant part in Shell’s Road Transport Standards Policy to improve its road safety performance. Astrata’s IVMS is recommended by Shell to be installed in vehicles operating in countries deemed high-risk in terms of their road safety record. These include all countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Russia.
Axel Botzenhardt, global discipline head of land transport at Royal Dutch Shell, said: Astrata has already proven its capabilities in a wider scale IVMS implementation program for Shell Brunei. The company has proved it can work with a global organization like Shell and help us to achieve our Goal Zero policy in road transportation, which is to cause no hurt to people and no harm to the environment.
According to Astrata, its IVMS application is different from traditionally available off-line monitoring and tracking devices. The company’s technology offers real-time data transmission between the asset and the back-end monitoring software, with decision making capability on-board the asset. This reduces communication costs and dependency on personnel.
Anthony Harrison, executive chairman of Astrata, said: “In terms of safety, a major advantage of Astrata’s real-time system is the instant notification of driver violations and distress alerts to the operators and management the moment it happens. This capability fits within Shell’s stringent safety policies. Our global agreement with Shell is a significant step for Astrata.”
