Shavlik ships anti-spyware software

Shavlik Technologies LLC has shipped its long-promised combined anti-spyware and patch management software, which has been in development and testing since December.

By CBR Staff Writer

The company yesterday announced the release of NetChk Spyware, a standalone anti-spyware system, and NetChk Protect, which combines the anti-spyware with Shavlik’s popular patch management software in a single product.

Shavlik said that the anti-spyware features share the same management tool. The company has previously told us it is considering pushing the new software through the same OEM model as NetChk.

Spyware cleaning and prevention and patch management are seen as complementary because unpatched software vulnerabilities is often the way spyware is installed. Shavlik competitors BigFix Inc and PatchLink Corp offer similar software.
