Sharp Corp is to market its new PC-4500 IBM AT-alike laptop in Australia, where it already already successfully sells its desk-top and boxed model, to the tune of 4,000 to 5,000 machines: the company has a home appliance plant and sales distribution network in place in Australia, and although in the long term it is still aiming at the larger markets of Europe and the US, with the recent retaliatory tariffs in the US, smaller markets are looking attractive as springboards into larger ones – and the Australian hardware market is very competitive; use of laptops as terminals on Fujitsu, NEC and IBMmainframes is gaining popularity Down Under.
