The UK will be one of the beneficiaries of a $60m programme launched by Sharp Corp to expand foreign manufacture of its products – but Thailand will get the lion’s share of the investment: the Japanese firm plans to manufacture copiers in the UK at an initial rate of 20,000 a year; in Thailand, it plans to add six products to the ones made there, electronic typewriters among them, and sees Thai employment rising to 2,500; it will also expand its base in Malaysia.
