Sharp Corp will market personal digital assistants running the Windows CE operating system in the US starting in November, according to Nihon Keizei Shimbun report. Several models will be available at prices of $500-800, depending upon memory capacity. Sharp’s latest PDAs run Windows CE Version 2, enhancing the functions of their color LCD panels and enabling data exchange with Windows-based PCs. The company currently sells three models in the US – the Zaurus PDA with keyboard, the Wizard electronic organizer, and an entry-level PDA incorporating Internet e-mail functions with its standard features. Sharp figures it holds about 30% of the US market. Sharp previously used a proprietary operating system in the Zaurus, but will adopt Windows CE for US models to offer compatibility with market standards. It has no plans to offer Windows CE devices in Japan.
