Sharp Corp, which entered the notebook computer market last year, plans to move on to desktop machines next spring – but they won’t be much like anything you’ve seen before. According to the Nippon Keizai Shimbun, the machine will use Sharp’s liquid crystal displays rather than cathode ray monitors, and they will be fitted with DVD-ROM drives. The fireside market will be the target. Sharp sold 81,000 notebooks in the six months to March, and is aiming for 300,000 in Japan and 200,000 overseas this fiscal. Sharp is reportedly aiming for a price of between $2,700 and $3,600, and the machines will launch in the US a few months after they hit Japan. Sharp was closed on Friday and so no-one could get a comment.
