SHARP BEGINS WORK ON APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENC TO ROBOT CONTROL

By CBR Staff Writer

Sharp Corp has begun work on the application of artificial intelligence to robot control: its aim is come up with a control system that is sufficiently sensitive to enable assembly line robots to judge distance and the weight of objects with the same precision as humans; it hopes to be using them in 1989 or 1990 to assemble home electronic goods and do microscopic semiconductor processing; it claims that it has already developed a controller enabling factory robots to judge distances.
