An information database for telecommunications users, consultants, suppliers and industry bodies is to be launched in March. Set up by John Kelly former chairman of the Telecommunications Managers Association, and Philip Lorentz, who is on the Association’s board, the database is to be called Share and subscribers will be able to access it using a personal computer and a modem. The service is primarily aimed at telecommunications managers and will provide information and updates on products, tariffs, regulations, standards, services and jobs. A messaging facility will also enable users to exchange information, either as individuals or as members of noticeboards. And a directory listing of other users will be available. Information can be downloaded for later reading or incorporated into other documents. Companies that have already committed to Share include Timeplex Ltd, L M Ericsson Telefon AB and Newbridge Networks Inc. And members of the Telecommunications Managers club are being offered a free trial. Standard subscription costs UKP500 and entitles the user to 100 hours of online access.
