Award Software Inc, Mountain View developer of systems management software, is finding the whole process of making an initial public offering a deep disappointment. When it filed to go public in June, it was on the hope of selling 2 million shares at somewhere between $11 and $13 a time, but it has now decided that it will be lucky to get more than 1.85 million shares away, and then only if it lowers its sights and settles for between $8 and $10. The offering is now tentatively set for late October, according to lead underwriter J P Morgan & Co.
