Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc, the San Jose graphics and multimedia personal computer board builder, has filed with the US Securities & Exchange Commission for an offering of 6.5m shares, 3.5m of them new, but does not say what the cash is for, although it is clearly in acquisitive mood, having bid for Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc and signed to take Spea Software AG; underwriters are Montgomery Securities, Alex Brown & Sons Inc, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp and Cowen & Co.

Intevac Inc, Santa Clara supplier of static disk sputtering systems used to manufacture thin-film platters for hard drives, has filed with the US Securities & Exchange Commission an amendment to a registration statement for its initial public offering of 2.5m shares, all new, at a target price of $7.00 to $8.00 a share. Underwriters are Robertson, Stephens & Co LP and Hambrecht & Quist LLC.

SQA Inc, Woburn, Massachusetts developer of integrated software products for the automated testing and quality management of Windows-based client-server applications, has filed with the US Securities & Exchange Commission to go public with an initial offering of 2m shares, all new, at a target price of between $12 and $14 to raise working capital.The offering will be managed by Robertson, Stephens & Co LP and Wessels, Arnold & Henderson LLC.
