Diehl Graphsoft Inc, Columbia, Maryland developer of the MiniCad computer-aided design software for the Macintosh, got its offer of 600,000 units, each consisting of one common share and one warrant for a second share, away at $5 per unit, for net proceeds of $2.6m to assist with increased research and development and expansion into new markets.The underwriter was W B McKee Securities Inc.

Expert Software Inc, Coral Gables, Florida publisher of consumer software, has filed to go public with an initial offer of 2m shares, 1.5m of them new, at a target price of between $9.00 and $11.00 per share. Net proceeds of $14m or so will be used to repay debt and redeem preferred stock, and for working capital. Hambrecht & Quist Inc and Piper Jaffray Inc will co-manage the underwriting group.

Silicon Valley Group Inc, making semiconductor fabrication equipment in San Jose, has filed with the Securities & Exchange Commission to offer 5.0m shares, 3.175m of them new, and looks for net proceeds of at least $70.7m for buying capital equipment, working capital, research and development and acquisitions. Underwriters are Morgan Stanley & Co Inc, Prudential Securities Inc and Cowen & Co.

Software Artistry Inc, Indianapolis, Indiana developer of customer support software, got its initial public offering of 1.885m shares, 1.35m of them new, away at $14.00 per share, against a target price of $10 to $12; no word on plans for the cash; the underwriting group for the issue was managed by Robertson, Stephens & Company, LP and Cowen & Co.

Transaction Systems Architects Inc got its initial public offering of 2.8m shares, 2m of them new, away at $15 per share. The Omaha, Nebraska-based company is the parent company of Applied Communications Inc and US Software Inc, which develop, market and support software for processing transactions from credit and debit cards, point of sales devices and automatic teller machines. Underwriters were Goldman Sachs & Co and Alex Brown & Sons.

US West Inc, Englewood, Colorado has filed a shelf registration with the US Securities & Exchange Commission to offer up to $1,000m in preferred securities, net proceeds to be used by it and its affiliates for reduction of short term and long-term borrowings and other business opportunities. Underwriter for the offering is Merrill Lynch & Co.

Viasoft Inc, Phoenix provider of software products and specialised professional consulting services designed to manage and automate the evolution of large-scale existing applications software systems, got its initial public offering of 2.5m shares, 1.7m of them new, at $8 per share. It did not give its plans for the net proceeds. Underwriters were Volpe, Welty & Co and Wessels, Arnold & Henderson.
