SHARE & BOND ISSUES

By CBR Staff Writer

Gateway 2000 Inc, the North Sioux City, South Dakota-based manufacturer and direct marketer of personal computers, is proposing to file with the US Securities & Exchange Commission a registration statement for the an underwritten public offering of 10m shares coming from the Norman W Waitt Jr Trust. The Trust intends to grant the underwriters an option for 30 days after the offering to buy up to 1.5m more shares. Gateway 2000 will not be adding any new shares to the issue, and rather superfluously says it won’t receive any of the proceeds from the sale by the Trust. No underwriters yet.

Software 2000 Inc, Hyannis, Massachusetts enterprise business software developer, has filed with the US Securities & Exchange Commission to go public with an initial offering of 2.3m shares, 1.33m of them new, to raise an estimated $14.2m for working capital, product development and capital expenditures, with acquisitions also on the cards. The underwriters are Needham & Co Inc, Robinson-Humphrey Co Inc and SoundView Financial Group Inc.

Diamond Cable Communications Plc, Nottingham, UK telecommunications and cable television operator, has decided to float in the US, and has filed with the Securities & Exchange Commission to offer 6.5m shares, 3.5m new, and looks to raise about $150m. The cash is for building its network and to cover its expected operating deficit. Goldman Sachs International was named global co-ordinator and the US offering will be managed by Goldman, Sachs & Co.
