Activision Inc, the Santa Monica, California-based creator of interactive entertainment software, has completed a $60m private placement of convertible subordinated notes. The funds are to be used to repay existing bank loans and for expanding the company’s line up of games software. Managing underwriter for the offer was Credit Suisse First Boston.

FiberNet Telecom Group Inc, Rochester New York-based local telecommunications outfit, has announced a private placement of 1 million convertible preferred shares for $5.0m. Fibernet intends to use the net proceeds to build its planned 384 mile optic fiber network in New York City, which will be used to build the business network, with the bandwidth on the network leased to telecoms carriers. Fibernet is looking for a further $20m in funding from GE Capital Services Inc, part of General Electric Co Inc, to build a fiber network in Manhattan.

Texas Instruments Inc says its wholly owned subsidiary, DSL Acquisition Corp, has now completed its tender offer for all the issued and outstanding shares of common stock of Amati Communications Corp at a price of $20 per share. Texas trumped an attempted bid for the company by Westell Technologies Inc back in November (CI No 3,294).
