SHANGHAI HUA HONG NEC TO PRODUCE 64MB MASS DRAM

By CBR Staff Writer

Shanghai Hua Hong NEC Electronics Co Ltd is to start mass production of 64Mb Dynamic Random Access Memory devices next year, according to the Nikkei Microdevices. The company, which is a joint venture between NEC Corp and Shanghai Hua Hong Microelectronics Co Ltd, will start production of 200mm wafers using 0.35 micron technology next February. The long term plan is to produce 5,000 DRAM devices a month, and then move into logic integrated circuits. While Shanghai Hua Hong NEC accepts that there is not great demand for logic ICs in China at the moment, it expects the market to develop in the future.
