SGS-THOMSON IS IN TALKS WITH THORN ON INMOS, THOMSON CONFIRMS

By CBR Staff Writer

Thomson-CSF SA, Paris yesterday confirmed that its SGS-Thomson Semiconductors SA venture is in talks with Thorn EMI Plc about taking on Thorn’s Inmos International Plc subsidiary. Thomson gave no further details of the talks, but the consensus seems to be that Thorn would transfer ownership of Inmos to SGS-Thomson, and in return receive shares representing a 10% stake in the enlarged company, which would get a firm value some time in the future upon a public flotation of SGS-Thomson. Inmos moved into profit in the first half of Thorn’s fiscal 1989, contributing UKP3.5m of the UKP97m group operating profit in the term to September.
