Internet start-up Vayu Web Inc says it has initiated licensing discussions with Silicon Graphics Inc, but the company doesn’t appear to have really made any friends with its alleged partner- to-be. Apparently a friendly conversation with Silicon Graphics’ Webforce marketing director Jay Kidd at a trade show got turned into a press release about negotiations that Silicon Graphics says are not happening. Kidd is quoted in the release, raving about Vayu Web’s product, saying why should we re-invent the wheel since you’ve already done the work? Silicon Graphics says the whole thing is a gross exaggeration and said that Kidd’s quote was taken out of context, and without authorization. When called last week, Vayu Web became perhaps the first company ever to offer no comment on its own press release. Vayu Web’s product, the Vayu Web 500, creates Web sites which include hot buttons that play information, not unlike television. Vayu Web is based in White Plains, New York.
