And all seven regional Bells intend to appeal Judge Greene’s ruling that they must stay out of long-distance service and manufacturing: they claim, rather cheekily, that the good jurist has misunderstood a clause in his own AT&T consent decree that led to creation of the Baby Bells; the clause, they say, means they can enter the two forbidden businesses if they can show their entry would harm competition.
