Servio Corp, Alameda, California, has announced release 2.0 of GemStone, its object-oriented database manager – claiming it to be three times faster than the original version, which shipped around four years ago: it can access C++ libraries, has a bridge to the Sybase SQL Server and supports TCP/IP; it will be out in October for Sun Microsystems workstations, DEC VMS and Ultrix systems, with IBM RS/6000 to follow, it is $12,000.
