The package, known as Requirements and Traceability Management, has been acquired along with various other assets, associated expertise, and the RTM customer base from Integrated Chipware Inc of Reston, Virginia. The company is a supplier of software development tools for the embedded real-time operating system market as well as various other programming and CASE tools.

The RTM technology is based on the Oracle 8/9i database engine, and is used to tightly couple the requirements and design phases of the product development life cycle. It includes features that allow collaborative, web-based tracking of project discussions and related changes to software development projects requirements as they happen, to ensure that all project stakeholders stay in synch with one another.

The technology provides a bridge among processes automated by the Serena TeamTrack process and issue management package, the company said. Existing RTM users include Lockheed Martin, TRW, Federal Express, and SBC.
