SEQUENT “TO DESERT NS32000 FOR INTEL 80386”

By CBR Staff Writer

Putting right a grievous wrong they committed when they quit Intel Corp to set up their own company in Beaverton, Oregon – the 16 co-founders even poached the secretary – the folks at Sequent Computer Systems are deserting the National Semiconductor NS32000 microprocessor family for the Intel 80386 in their next generation of multi-processor transaction processing Unix machines, according to Electronic News. The US trade weekly says that the firm will announce a new top-end Balance machine this week using the Intel part, but will retain the NS32032-based Balance 8000 and Balance 21000 as its low-end models.
