Sequent Computer Systems Inc has signed a strategic partnership with German/South African mainframe and network equipment firm Comparex Holdings Ltd to boost its European presence. While Sequent has done well in the UK, France and Italy, countries where it will continue to sell direct, it plans to let Comparex take responsibility for its sales in most other European markets, namely Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. Comparex has long-standing contracts with European blue chips, particularly in Germany, and the new deal strengthens its offerings in NT and Unix. Most Sequent personnel in the named countries will transfer over to Comparex, though some will remain with Sequent to manage the relationship. In other countries, Sequent’s existing partner relationships will remain unchanged.
